Following many years adrift at sea,

shared that he has been quietly dealing with a severe health concern.

The 52-year-old television host revealed that he has been diagnosed with melanoma, which is the most severe form of skin cancer.

Chambers had a tiny dark mole on his ribs for ten years before discovering it was far more concerning than he initially thought.

“I have spent thirty years out at sea, and I remember thinking, ‘This will never be an issue,”” he recounted.

. Yet, it remains an issue.

Following the diagnosis of skin cancer in one of his friends, he thought it best to book an appointment to ensure everything was fine with him.

He remembered thinking to himself that he ought to have his examined since it had been five years since his last check-up. Something just didn’t feel right within him; his gut was telling him so.

Jason Chambers’ Diagnosis of Skin Cancer

Last year, Chambers had a sunspot removed and biopsied in Bali. In December 2024, he learned that it was melanoma. The diagnosis came through an email, and he found it difficult to schedule a follow-up appointment because he was busy traveling for promotions.

“The waiting time to see a dermatologist is so lengthy, which is quite unfortunate,” he pointed out.

Eventually, he consulted physicians in Sydney, who informed him that they wished to conduct more comprehensive tests due to the extent of his skin cancer. Given their prognosis that it had reached stage 2, they advised that he required a more invasive procedure to excise some of the muscles surrounding his ribcage.

“As that time passed, I began investigating and wondered, ‘How could I have been so naive? Why didn’t I simply visit a dermatologist annually before?’ The whole experience was incredibly distressing,” he explained.

What has happened with Jason Chambers’ skin cancer recently?

Ultimately, the medical professionals from Australia concluded that the majority of his skin cancer had been excised in Bali, leaving just a minor portion for them to address through surgery. He was advised to arrange checkups at regular intervals over the coming months; however, there was merely a 5% probability of the condition recurring.

Chambers is currently leveraging his position to highlight the importance of getting regular skin examinations and motivate others to do so. Additionally, he advocates for better accessibility to medical professionals for everyone.

He recalled, “It was extremely challenging to secure a reservation… and I felt quite uneasy during that time waiting for additional details.” He expressed his desire, saying, “All I want is for skin examinations to be accessible to those who require them but cannot afford them. This should be simple; just a brief check-up. It doesn’t deserve to cost several hundred dollars with a waitlist stretching over three weeks when certain types of skin cancer could potentially devastate someone within half a year. The stakes are incredibly high here.”

For now, he’s “avoiding direct sunlight” and looking after his health.

“In Australia, we refer to it as ‘slip, slop, slap.’ We slip on a hat, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on a shirt,” stated the reality TV star who will be the emcee for the Melanoma Research Foundation gala.
