Russia has been under attack by strike drones for the second day in a row. The drones are heavily targeting border regions with Ukraine as well as Moscow, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, and Russian public sources.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that from 20:00 to 23:50 Moscow time (which currently matches Kyiv time), their anti-aircraft defenses took down and intercepted 77 drones.
· 42 within the Kursk region’s boundaries;
・14 over Belgorod region;
· 9 across the Moscow area;
・8 over Oryol region;
・2 over Kaluga region;
• one each across the Ryazan and Tula regions.
Specifically, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced at 10:29 PM that six drones had been neutralized, and later at 11:07 PM stated that an additional three drones en route to the Russian capital had also been intercepted.
Emergency responders are operating at the locations where the debris landed.
Tula and Lipetsk regions
In the meantime, drones were observed hovering above the city of Yelets located in the Lipetsk region. Locals recounted hearing approximately four blasts.
Furthermore, drones have begun targeting the Tula region. The Telegram channel Mash has stated that inhabitants of the Proletarsky District heard distinct noises and observed flashes beginning at 11:45 p.m.
Residents of the city of Novomoskovsk in the Tula region also witnessed explosions in the sky. According to the Telegram channel SHOT, loud noises were heard throughout different areas of the city near midnight. Initial information indicates that the anti-aircraft defense was engaging with drones.
Drone attack on Russia
The drone assault on Russia has continued for a second consecutive day. During the night of May 21, strike drones launched a massive attack on several regions of Russia.
Explosions were heard in the Tula and Ryazan regions. Rosaviatsiya temporarily suspended operations at airports in Kaluga, Tula, Yaroslavl, and Kostroma.
Later, it was revealed that UAVs had struck the Bolkhov Semiconductor Device Plant in the Oryol region. The facility manufactures components for howitzers, tanks, and missiles.
On May 21, drones were also detected and shot down over several European regions of Russia during the day.
