A week of speculation has finally come to an end after
Eurovision Song Contest
legend
Celine Dion
did not manage to show up at this year’s Grand Final.

The 2025 musical gathering took place in
Basel
,
Switzerland
, with hundreds of thousands descending upon the city this week to grab a piece of the action.

Unfortunately, one of the things they had been looking forward to the most did not materialize.

The song “My Heart Will Go On” features Canadian singer Céline Dion.
was apparently scheduled to play
At the 69th ESC finale, with numerous clues surfacing in the past few days.

When Celine was just 20 years old, she won the Eurovision contest held in Dublin in 1988. She represented Switzerland with her song “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.”

Her global triumph began with this win, making it unsurprising that everyone expected her to come back and join in the celebration of the competition’s hometown comeback.

However, as the finale went on
over four hours of coverage
As hope began to fade among viewers at home, even BBC commentator Graham Norton, who frequently voiced his desire for her to take the stage, grew increasingly eager for her performance.

The Irish comic remarked that it wouldn’t have made sense to accommodate more than 30,000 spectators at St. Jakob-Park to view the finale live, had Celine not performed atop the massive stage constructed in the middle.

However, it appears that was indeed the situation.

Once it became clear that the Power of Love singer wasn’t there, viewers took to X to share their disappointment, having been optimistic for as long as possible but finally accepting reality once the votes were read out.

@macheloune tweeted, ‘WHERE IS CELINE DION!!!!!!’

In reference to Graham’s previous remarks, @trevorsbrady commented jestingly: ‘”My dreams ending” shedding tears over the notion that Graham convinced himself Céline Dion would show up.’

‘I empathize with Graham Norton. Each time he mentions “Celine Dion” as though he’s attempting to summon her, I believe he desires this more intensely than anybody else,’ wrote @JodiePortugal on Twitter.

@chezgwendolyn remarked, ‘Whoever initiated the rumor that Céline Dion might perform tonight, I’m practically inside your walls with excitement.’

Following the sighting of the international celebrity’s private plane in Switzerland without any trace of them onboard, their absence has become apparent.

It was mentioned earlier this week that discussions are continuing actively.

On Tuesday afternoon, Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR issued a statement as an update, informing fans: “At present, there are no updates concerning Celine Dion—we continue to maintain close communication with her.”

In the meantime, the 57-year-old artist posted an emotional statement contemplating her personal victory and achievements in a segment shown during the initial semi-final. This was succeeded by a stunning performance of her winning entry, interpreted by former Eurovision contestants such as Silvester Boltz and Iolanda.

The celebrity swiftly expressed her disappointment at not being able to attend the grand event in the nation.

In both French and English, she conveyed to her audience that Switzerland ‘has always had a special place in her heart’.

‘It is a nation that placed its trust in me and provided the opportunity to be part of such an incredible achievement—winning the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland back in 1988,’ she stated.

‘It was a pivotal moment in my life, and I am immensely grateful to all those who backed me.’
