In Pictou County, Nova Scotia, residents think that a car linked to a deadly 1985 hit-and-run might still be hidden within the area.
Nova Scotia
—and they’re pinning their hopes on new technology and a public plea to finally get some answers.

On March 27, 1985, Anthony Gerard Burke, who was 29 years old at the time, died after he was hit by a vehicle on Wellington Street in Pictou, Nova Scotia. The person driving the car left the scene and was not recognized.

Burke was at a get-together with friends at a house on Wellington Street when he exited the premises following an argument inside.

The RCMP stated shortly after, Burke was hit by a car.

A driver who was passing by saw what happened and tried to help Burke, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene, as reported by the RCMP.

The vehicle suspected was described as a blue one, potentially an AMC Gremlin.

“We have grounds to think the vehicle might still be located within the province,” stated Cst. Daniel Ronaghan from the Pictou County RCMP.

The RCMP has made a video public that shares Burke’s story, aiming for it to prompt someone to step forward with relevant details.

Burke’s daughter, Shauna Collier, stated in the RCMP video that she hopes by coming forward, it might encourage someone else to end their silence.

“For four decades, I have lived with unresolved queries. His life was significant,” she stated.
