According to a recent Washington Post analysis, Donald Trump might be “out of the loop.”

On Saturday, Aaron Blake, a senior political correspondent for The Washington Post, noted that the president seems to be sidelined in his own administration, even though he has criticized his predecessor for appearing complacent.

As per Blake, Trump has indicated that he himself “isn’t part of making key choices.”

“One of the major themes of President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign was the idea that Joe Biden had no idea what was happening around him,” Blake wrote. “But less than four months after taking over from Biden, it’s Trump who, in his own telling, is often unaware of major events surrounding him and directly involving his administration.”

In addition to “pleading ignorance” on some issues, Blake highlights how Trump has also distanced himself from certain administration moves.

Sometimes, Trump has kept a distance from significant and impactful choices made by his administration, giving an impression that these were not largely influenced by him,” Blake noted, providing several instances. “Just last Thursday, Trump indicated that he barely had any part in choosing his newly appointed surgeon general,

.”

“I do not know her,” Trump stated when announcing the appointment.

Following multiple instances where Trump distanced himself from decisions made by his team, such as the contentious Signal conversation with Pete Hegseth, Blake stated, “Let me clarify: This along with various other issues noted earlier represent among the most crucial events during Trump’s second term. He also indicated that he was not closely involved or fully informed about these circumstances.”

There is definitely a query regarding the extent to which Trump was genuinely involved.

When addressing certain delicate matters, he might have benefited from distancing himself from those decisions,” the reporter noted on Saturday. “However, this apparently laissez-faire attitude was also evident during his initial term, especially concerning the administration’s handling of the COVID-19 response.”

In closing, Blake referenced Trump’s remarks regarding Biden.

“And this is quite an interesting stance coming from someone who claimed their former leader was utterly detached and often criticized the idea of non-presidential figures making decisions,” Blake noted.
