ISLAMABAD (newsinpo.site) – Pakistan plans to dedicate 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity for powering bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence data centers as part of a nationwide project, according to an announcement from the country’s finance ministry on Sunday.
This allotment is part of Islamabad’s strategy to utilize its excess electricity for Bitcoin mining and AI data centers.
Pakistan’s energy industry is facing issues such as elevated electricity prices and an excess of power production capability.
The swift growth of solar power has added another layer of complexity to the situation, as an increasing number of customers opt for renewable alternatives to reduce their expenses.
The initiative is led by the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), a government-supported organization, as part of an extensive plan to capitalize on excess power generation, generate high-technology employment opportunities, and draw in international investments, according to the ministry statement.
This distribution marks the initial stage of an extensive, multifaceted deployment of digital infrastructure, it noted additionally.
