The Prasidh Krishna showcased in IPL 2025 hasn’t merely gotten better; he’s undergone a complete transformation. Playing for the Gujarat Titans this season, the 29-year-old fast bowler has rapidly become one of the most reliable and influential pacers in the competition.

Selected for INR 9.50 crores at the grand auction, Prasidh has justified Gujarat’s confidence by performing crucially when needed most. In ten matches, he has claimed 19 wickets with an economy rate of 7.29, demonstrating excellent variation in his bowling speed. Following his absence from the previous two seasons due to injuries, his comeback has been flawless, allowing the Gujarat Titans to enjoy significant benefits.

Prasidh has teamed up with fellow fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma, forming a fearsome bowling unit that stands out as one of the most threatening in the tournament.

Gujarat won by 38 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Prasidh delivered yet another precise performance, claiming 2/19 in his four-over spell. Renowned for his consistent length and variety, he opted for simplicity on the low-bouncing pitch—no slow balls, no fancy maneuvers—just high-released deliveries that made things difficult for the opposing team.

“I’d agree with that,” Prasidh stated following the game. “Our teamwork and all the effort we’ve invested have paid off splendidly. The backing I’m receiving from those around me is incredible too. It’s really satisfying to see how well the ball is behaving.”

That feeling of rhythm and happiness has played a crucial role in his change. Even though the IPL usually doesn’t help fast bowlers develop their Test cricket skills, Prasidh is showing that this can be done differently, displaying great discipline along with immense flexibility.

Recently, questions arose regarding his capability to excel at the elite level. His lackluster performance in South Africa towards the end of 2024 sparked concerns among many about his prospects. Nonetheless, his talent remained undiminished. Early in 2025, he made a strong comeback into India’s Test lineup for the match in Sydney, where he claimed six wickets, showcasing his abilities in test cricket.

Nevertheless, for Prasidh, the real test still awaits.

“When asked about these labels, I mentioned that I don’t consider myself a red-ball or white-ball specialist,” he explained. “Consistently hitting the correct line and length allows me to perform effectively across different formats, irrespective of whether it’s red ball or white ball.”

Rather than concentrating on specific formats, Prasidh maintains his focus on fundamentals such as repetition, control, and preparation.

“Preparation begins by managing what I can control within the nets. If you’re set for the second innings, you observe each delivery during the first innings. Afterward, you consult seasoned players, focus on hitting the correct zones, and proceed accordingly,” explained Prasidh.

Prasidh Krishna version 2.0 — faster, wiser, and even more formidable — is primed for India’s upcoming Test series in England. The bowler, who participated in the Sydney Test against Australia earlier this year, attributes his progress to talks with Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra before the IPL 2025 season.

Despite the increasing excitement surrounding his potential for playing for England, Prasidh remains level-headed.

I’ve got a red ball in my bedroom, having some fun with it. Haven’t let it touch the floor yet. My plan is to win this tournament first, and then consider what comes next.

However, the task facing India in England is far from straightforward. This five-Test series will put their bowling unit through rigorous tests with the swinging Dukes ball, challenging circumstances, and extended periods of play. Although Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the assault, Prasidh’s innate bounce, high arm action, and swift deliveries qualify him as an ideal complement to Bumrah under English conditions.

His skill in inducing seam movement quickly aligns perfectly with playing conditions in England. Alongside the precision demonstrated in the IPL, Prasidh is establishing himself as one of India’s most promising fast bowlers for Test cricket.

For many years, India has been looking for a bowler capable of routinely surpassing 140 kph, adjusting their game across various formats, and intimidating batsmen with speed and accuracy. Prasidh has often demonstrated this promise, yet setbacks due to injury and inconsistency hindered his progress. However, as we reach 2025, he’s finally transforming that potential into consistent performances.

This time around, it seems like he’s really planning to stick around.
