The SunRisers Hyderabad are almost eliminated from the Indian Premier League 2025 following their defeat against the Gujarat Titans on Friday, May 2. After returning from recent matches, Hyderabad

Prior to this match, they struggled to maintain the required tempo and were completely dominated in both sessions at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Entering the contest under immense pressure, SRH struggled to put up much resistance throughout the majority of the game. Mohammad Shami, among India’s best quicks, exemplified this difficulty. Despite attempting three overs, he didn’t manage a single clean delivery and ultimately conceded 48 runs, appearing entirely off-sync.

Inside the powerplay,

SRH team leader Pat Cummins likewise struggled with his bowling.

, placing the team at a disadvantage right from the start. As Shubman Gill batted smoothly and the GT top-order played in perfect sync, it proved to be an unpleasant experience for SunRisers. Following the game, Cummins acknowledged that SRH had allowed the contest to get away from them all too readily.

“The batting powerplay didn’t go so well for us. I’m just as responsible as everyone else. It probably cost us an additional 20-30 runs. Perhaps holding onto one or two more catches could have made a difference. Once again, I own up to my part in this. Chasing 200 seemed more attainable after that,” Cummins said to the broadcaster following the game.

This campaign has seen numerous lost chances for SRH. The team that came close last year has struggled to recreate their form, largely attributed to varying pitch conditions this time around and also because their acquisitions have not met expectations. A roster designed to be balanced has appeared fragmented over the course of the season.

Cummins did not mince words when critiquing the bowlers, pointing out that they served up an excessive number of wayward balls. As the skipper from the World Cup-winning team confessed, this campaign appeared essentially finished for SRH. Despite being theoretically within reach, securing a playoff spot would require them to claim victory in every match left on their schedule, amassing 14 points total—a scenario that currently looks extremely unlikely.

Although Cummins didn’t state it explicitly, he suggested that the team will start focusing on what lies ahead, underlining the significance of keeping a solid central roster intact.

“There remains a glimmer of hope. A major auction took place last year. This key team members will stay for another three years. Thus, there’s much to look forward to,” he finished.

With the loss, SRH remained second from the bottom in the points table with just 6 points from 10 games. They are only ahead of Chennai Super Kings, who appear destined to finish with the wooden spoon this season.
