Donald Trump recently went all out in an effort to reverse a Joe Biden-era program, only to hurt his own voters in the process, according to a report.

Greg Sargent
, staff writer at the New Republic, wrote over the weekend that the president “grew angry over a Biden-era program with the word ‘equity’ in its name, so he ended it.”

“A crucial aspect of the initiative involved transferring funds to red states with the aim of enhancing internet accessibility in rural areas and MAGA country. However, now they may not receive this support,” Sargent posted on social media.

Sargent mentions the Digital Equity Act, which gained notice from the White House due to its emphasis on “equity.”

“So now Trump is moving to nix funding—but it could cut off millions destined for red America,” he wrote Saturday in an article entitled “Angry Trump Kills ‘Woke’ Program—and Accidentally Screws MAGA Voters.”

Sargent states that Trump observed the “equity” program and deduced that “it must be aimed at assisting those who do not deserve it,” presumably referring to minority groups.

He noted that this provided Trump with an ideal platform to sensationalize claims of alleged anti-white discrimination. However, there was a catch. The initiative at hand, known as the Digital Equity Act, allocated substantial funds for both Republican-led and Democrat-controlled state administrations to enhance broadband accessibility in underprivileged regions—a category that notably encompassed less-connected rural zones within conservative states.

Sargent goes even further, stating, “Additionally, each red state government
had submitted proposals
designed to garner their states large amounts of this funding.”

“These proposals were explicitly designed by these GOP governments partly to serve their states’ rural areas,” he added.
