NEW DELHI: The Gujarat Titans returned to winning ways with an impressive 38-run victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2025 on Friday. This triumph was fueled by blistering innings from Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, complemented by precise bowling from Prasidh Krishna, rounding out a comprehensive team effort. With this defeat, SRH’s chances of making it to the playoffs have become slim, whereas GT provided a significant uplift to their own campaign.
Leading off, the Titans set an impressive total of 224/6 thanks to a scorching 87-run partnership at the start between Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Gill struck a rapid-fire 76 runs in only 38 balls, with Sudharsan contributing 48 from merely 23 deliveries. Later, Jos Buttler propelled GT close to their target with a powerful knock of 64 off 37 balls, pushing them near the milestone mark of 200.

SRH started their pursuit strongly but couldn’t keep up the pace, ending at 186/6. Abhishek Sharma stood out as the sole standout player, scoring an impressive 74 off just 41 balls. Regardless of his contributions, the required run rate became unattainable, particularly following the departure of Travis Head, caught spectacularly by Rashid Khan. Sprinting from deep square leg, Rashid executed a sharp change in trajectory en route to securing the remarkable catch.
Once again, Prasidh Krishna excelled with the ball, recording stats of 2/19 from his four overs. The sole worry for GT was seeing Ishant Sharma hobbling off the ground before he could finish bowling.
Initially, SRH’s bowlers struggled for answers, with Mohammed Siraj conceding 22 runs in his opening two overs and Ishant giving up 20 during his initial stint. Shubman Gill kicked off the GT innings by hitting a six off Mohammed Shami and proceeded to take control, particularly against Pat Cummins, scoring 17 runs in an over which featured a mighty six beyond deep mid-wicket.
Sudharsan teased Shami, scoring four successive boundaries off him. Together, they amassed 82 runs during the opening overs. Eventually, leg-spin bowler Zeeshan Ali disrupted their collaboration by dismissing Sudharsan via agoogly that was caught by the wicketkeeper.
Gill continued smoothly, achieving his fifty in 25 deliveries with an elegant shot through point. Meanwhile, Buttler, who was in superb form, also attained the 4000-run mark in the IPL with a powerful six hit off Ansari.
Gill managed to survive a delivery dropped by Cummins off Harshal Patel at 66 runs, but he was later caught out due to Harshall’s precise throw from close fine leg and an astute deflection hitting the wickets executed by Klaasen.
During an intense exchange, Gill was observed having a heated argument with the umpires regarding a review that involved Abhishek Sharma, who attempted to calm down the GT captain.
Ultimately, Gujarat’s clinical batting and disciplined bowling proved too much for SRH, who are now staring at elimination.
