A woman expressed her excitement after being named the inaugural Flatpack World Champion.
In its inaugural year, the Flatpack World Championships featured eight contestants competing to construct flatpack furniture as quickly as possible during the launch of Grand Designs Live at ExCeL London on Friday.
The competition was divided into two stages, with contestants crafting both bookcases and bedside tables.
In just nine minutes and 33 seconds, Hayley McAuley constructed a bedside table, demonstrating her exceptional speed and tenacity—qualities essential for becoming a champion.
“It has indeed been quite an unpredictable morning, and I am utterly elated to be named the Flatpack World Champion,” stated Ms. McAuley from Wigan.
When I initially learned about the contest, I eagerly seized the opportunity to join because I’ve often believed that I’m quite efficient with assembling ready-to-assemble furniture.
Absolutely everyone performed terrifically.
Ms. McAuley received a gold Allan Key medal and was greeted with congratulations from Kevin McLeod, the event’s host, renowned primarily for his role as the presenter of Grand Designs.
McCloud mentioned: “This was incredibly enjoyable and highly entertaining.”
It was delightful to observe who approached this with seriousness, and who inadvertently undermined their efforts to succeed.
We had an incredibly impressive crowd that found it immensely amusing.
The items of furniture are intended for donation to the charity British Heart Foundation.
Grand Designs Live will take place from May 2 to 5 and is celebrating its 20th year.
