A conservative columnist from The Atlantic wrote on Saturday that Donald Trump’s most perilous moves are slipping past unnoticed for reasons more severe than many may anticipate.

Former Republican Tom Nichols was interviewed extensively on MSNBC over the weekend and was questioned towards the end of the discussion regarding how Trump’s actions have mostly remained unchecked.

The host particularly queried Nichols about the lack of “strong public protest.”

EXCLUSIVE:

A breastfeeding mother of a U.S. citizen has filed a lawsuit against Kristi Noem following an incident where she was apprehended byICE.

Nichols was questioned, “Could this be due to what you just discussed? Are certain actions, which are taking place beneath the guise of these democratic institutions, the reason why they’re not getting noticed by some individuals?”

He responded, “Actually, there’s an even more concerning reason behind this. The issue is that millions upon millions of individuals believe it’s entirely acceptable to utilize governmental tools against those they simply do not agree with or dislike.”

“A big part of the problem is that some of what Trump is doing is just popular with a certain amount of people who don’t think that these things could ever be turned around and happen to them, if those instruments of government were used against them,” he added. “But there’s a bigger problem, which is that we live with a very high standard of living on our our day to day life. Everything works. You know, our gas tanks are full, the grocery stores, shelves are stocked… and people just say, well, how bad could it be? And it doesn’t get bad until the day it happens. And then I think people find themselves surprised.”
